Ring Size Guide: Measure at Home

Use this ring size guide to measure your finger at home in five minutes. All you need is a strip of paper, a pen and a ruler, and the steps below go in order from start to finish.

Measure your finger, step by step

Cut a strip of paper

A strip about 10 cm long and 1 cm wide works well. Thin card or sticky-note paper is even better than printer paper, because it holds its length.

Wrap it around your finger

Wrap the strip around the base of your finger, where the ring will sit. Pull it snug, but not tight.

Mark where the paper meets

Mark the spot with a pen, then lay the strip flat against a ruler.

Read the length in millimetres

The length to your mark is your finger circumference. Match it to the chart below to see your size.

Or measure a ring you already own

Measure the inside width of a ring that fits, edge to edge, in millimetres. That number is the inner diameter in the chart.

Size numbers differ between countries and brands, so go by the millimetre measure rather than the number. Then pick the matching size option on the page of the ring you like. If you sit between two sizes, choose the larger one.

  • Measure your ring size at the end of the day, when your fingers are at their usual width.
  • Check your size when your hands are warm, because cold fingers measure smaller.
  • Measure two or three times and use the middle number for a ring size you can trust.
  • Choose the next size up for a wide band, since wide bands fit snugger than thin ones.

Common ring size questions

What if I am between two ring sizes?

Choose the larger size. A ring that slides on easily is more comfortable than one that squeezes your knuckle.

Do fingers change size during the day?

Yes, a little. Heat, cold, salty food and time of day all change finger width, which is why measuring in the evening with warm hands gives the steadiest number.

Which finger should I measure?

Measure the finger the ring will sit on. Fingers on the same hand differ, and your dominant hand is often a touch larger.

Is an Indian ring size the same as a US size?

Not always. Brands in India use their own charts, and some match US numbers while others do not. The millimetre measure in the chart above works for any brand.

Got your size?

Pick the matching size on the ring you like. If you sit between two sizes, go for the larger one.
